Does This Look Impacted?

aka death grip
People¹ have said my "technique" for holding a pen is "wrong." Does this look "wrong" to you? Do you hold a pen in a different way?

¹ i.e. my generally supportive but occasionally savage immediate family.

Looks fine to me. Nothing out of the ordinary. Not that I spend a lot of time examining peoples' pen gripping form.

Looks pretty normal to me.

My eyes, my eyes!

Oh, the wrongness...

That doesn't seem wrong at all. Granted I hold my thumb finger a bit higher on the pen, but everyone's style is different.

Uh, sure. As long as you can write, does it matter?

I have this whole holding a tea cup 2 fingered thing going on when I write and I write with force, so shows the permanent callous I've had on my right ring finger since time out of mind. The writing looks fine and all I say to 'impacted' is - if it feels right then why change?

*I* never thought it mattered much; it's just been one of those finer points of dispute. Apparently I don't know how to properly tie shoelaces either.

"Obsesses about stupid things." How come none of these online tests pick up on this, eh?

Nadia - (short version) Thanks.

Nadia - (long version) Have you studied statistics? Are you familiar with the term "outlier?" Or physics; have you learned about "phase," specifically the concept of something being out of phase? I ask because (1) your response was out of phase with others, and (2) I often find myself out of phase, a statistical outlier relative to... um. Normal. Whatever that is. So thanks, because you seemed to come at this from a different angle.

So - what gave it away? :-O

Amber, I used to get hand-cramps, but don't anymore. Thought I might reach a point where writing would be literally painful. Not good! Some time ago I noticed the cramping had stopped; guess I must have changed something, though not through any conscious effort.

A writing-induced callus isn't necessarily a bad thing, yes? Hmm. Pen & paper vs. keyboard... preferences, anyone?

Looks pretty normal. And it inspired my next poll question. Thanks!

RaJ - (short version)You're most welcome.

RaJ - (long version) I used to be familiar with such Physics-related terms, until I figured out I couldn't care less*. I know where you're coming from, because I come from there too. But only on every third Monday in August, so you're pretty lucky to have posted this when you did. Otherwise, who knows what kind of *shudder* normal comment you might've got.

*Actually, I like Physics. this is just my attempt at sounding cool and jaded. Looks like another deferred success...

PENCIL and paper. Definitely pencil. Only pencil.

But keyboard is so much faster, and hence, enables me to spew that much more crap. A dubious (or indeed, scroobious) advantage.
